ADDICTION TO MODAFINIL (PROVIGIL)
Although Provigil brings relief for many people suffering from traumatic sleep disorder, the dangers of the drug are becoming more clear than ever. Due to the euphoric effects of Provigil, many people abuse the drug despite the risks. Those who begin abusing Provigil on a regular basis are likely to develop a dependence on and/or an addiction to the drug. Provigil is extremely addictive because it is derived from opiates, making it similar to morphine and heroin.
WHAT IS PROVIGIL
Provigil can also cause physical changes in the brain’s neurocircuitry. This can lead to altered behaviors and the development of mental disorders like depression. Some Provigil addicts become suicidal after taking the drug for a prolonged period of time.
DANGERS OF PROVIGIL
The greatest danger of Provigil is a potentially fatal overdose. Provigil depresses a person’s respiration and decreases their blood pressure. This can lead to seizures, comas or cardiac arrest (especially when ingesting, snorting, or injecting crushed tablets). Provigil is most dangerous and addictive when taken via methods that increase the drug’s euphoric effects, such as crushing pills and then snorting or injecting the powder or combining the pills with alcohol or other drugs.
